Most dixie-crats opposed civil rights, were often corrupt and promoted a religious agenda. The party is almost extinct today, though a few still exist as "DINOS"

A nick-name for democrats of the southern states, like Mississippi, Louisiana, etc.
Most famous of which would be Zell Miller, a southern Democrat (Of Georgia, I believe) who spoke at the Republican National Convention.

A 1960s reference to southern democrats. They are still democrats because there was no other party that wanted to take them.
Robert Byrd was one of many dixiecrats that has remained a democrat.
